STEM Education:
Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics.
BERNINA Singapore has embarked on a joint research project with meriSTEM@NIE (Multi-centric Education, Research, and
Industry STEM Centre at National Institute of Education, Singapore), to craft a
suite of STEM courses for primary and secondary school students.
The collaboration was sparked by the idea that the digital embroidery machine
can
be programmed using Scratch, a
block-based, visual programming language.
What if we could programme a design on the computer, and have it automatically stitched onto real materials?

Witnessing the automated embroidery machine in action was a highlight for students in every session. It is like watching a high-speed robot produce their personalized designs on the spot, and taking home a finished product.

The use of physical materials in the workshops also allows students to test their properties, and learn how each material is produced.
A segment titled includes content on the origins of materials, with videos and engaging quizzes.
BERNINA Singapore plans to offer similar courses to more schools, in the form of Applied Learning Programme, Co-Curricular Activities, and enrichment programmes for primary to high school students.
