Every summer BERNINA hosts a convention to inspire and educate BERNINA dealers, introducing them to new products and promotions. One of the most exciting and useful new products introduced this year was The Big Book of Embroidery. This book is a guide to BERNINA machine embroidery. It’s a comprehensive machine embroidery book with a wealth of information for the novice as well as the experienced stitcher. Full disclosure: As editor of this book, I am a bit biased. I’ve been working on it for the past year and it’s finally here! I’m thrilled that it is now available to everyone at your local BERNINA stores. The Big Book of Embroidery

The book starts at the beginning with information about designs, stabilizers, embroidery supplies, and hooping methods. From there you explore basic editing functions that includes resizing, rotating, and Word Art.

Then you move on to more exciting functions such as Color Wheel, Endless Embroidery, and Importing Decorative Stitches.

Machine Magic

Next comes design placement. Using low tech methods with hoop templates and paper design templates is a good place to start. Then you can move on to high tech machine functions such as Virtual Positioning and Pinpoint Placement (on specific models).

Placement pages

After you get past the basics, you’re ready to explore stitching techniques. These include In-the-Hoop Projects, Lettering and Monogramming, Freestanding Designs, Piecing, Quilting, Applique and more!
